HOOP SCOOP Associate Editor Patrick Stanwood also checks in and he tells us that the guy who stole the show over the weekend at the Elite 75 Prep Showcase at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, NC was 6'5 Soph Michael Gbinije from Richmond (Evangel Christian) VA. "It won’t be a surprise if Gbinije evolves into one of the elite players nationally in his class," says Stanwood.  "This long physical wing can bring the ball up the floor and score at will from mid-range, around the rim, and even from behind the arc.  He’ll makes the right pass, plays well off the ball, and can defend nearly any position on the floor.  His list of schools already includes North Carolina, Florida, Clemson, Memphis and Virginia Tech."  The best point guard in the camp was 5'10 Soph Marquis Rankin from Charlotte (Vance) NC.  "Already one of the quickest guards in the country, Rankin shoots it out to 3-point range and has a quick first step, which allows him to quickly get in the paint, where he scores with high regularity. This Charlotte native also has long arms, which, when combined with his quickness, allows him to menace his opponent for easy steals.  He finished with 17 points, five assists, and two steals in perhaps Sunday’s most highly anticipated match-up of Rankin versus fellow elite 2011 guard Delonte “Bishop” Daniels."  Speaking of Daniels, who finished with 16 points and two assists of his own in the match-up against Rankin, this 6'2 super athlete from Durham (Mt. Zion Christian) NC is an elite scorer (although he did miss his fair share of lay-ups), has solid passing skills, appears to be a good teammate, and already can claim to have offers from the likes of Wake Forest, Memphis, Clemson, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.  Stanwood also liked 6’9 Hassan Whiteside from Lenoir (Patterson) NC.  "This emerging power forward is best when operating down low, where his length and athleticism allow him to score over bigger and smaller opponents (scored 26 points in one game we watched Sunday).  Will be recruited at the high major level, but might benefit from a low-to-mid-major experience."  There was 6’2 Jr Ian Miller from Charlotte (United Faith) NC, who is virtually without a peer with regard to jumping ability. "Miller absorbs contact well and has a great on-and-off court demeanor, which is no doubt a reason for Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Memphis offering this athletic combo guard."  It also looks like 6’8 Soph Chris Coleman from Durham (Mt. Zion) NC is every bit a top 50-75 kid at this point in his career and he's already being recruited by West Virginia, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Clemson, George Mason, Texas, Wake Forest, Providence and Tennessee.  Also showing flashes was 6’6 Jr Jarell Eddie from Concord (Cannon School) NC, but this Virginia Tech recruit often leaves fans and talent evaluators wanting more.  "He’ll at times knock down a perimeter jump shot, make a nice pass, and even grab a tough board in traffic." says Stanwood.  "But for the most part his game is played at one speed and one speed only…If he can ever find that extra gear consistently, he’ll emerge as an elite level player."  One of the most intriguing players at the Elite 75 Prep Showcase was 6’11 Soph Matt Gorski from Richmond (Crosby) VA.  "He has expanded his shooting range out to three and told us Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida, North Carolina, Clemson, Wake Forest, VCU, and James Madison have all show interest.  Other prospects that college coaches should take notice of include 6’6 Jay Jones from Charlotte (Vance) NC, 5’8 Nick Parsons from Lexington (H.S.) NC, 6’2 Mack Hickey from Charlotte (Waddell) NC, 5’10 Hunter Morrison from China Grove (South Rowan) NC, 6’3 Jr Kristopher Coleman from Charlotte (Garinger) NC, 6’6 Jr Jermaine White from Charlotte (Butler) NC, 6’7 Jr James Carlton from Greenville (South Central) NC, 5’11 Jr Lewis Miller from Durham (School of The Arts) NC, 6’2 Jr Kendall Wicks from Winston Salem (R.J.
