Sorry for the delay, but Elite 75 Prep's been playing catch-up for the last week, due to the start of the actual AAU season. So we had to buckle down and give you the low down on what we saw in the heart of the Bronx in New York city. Many prep basketball fans were very skeptical about the NY phenom Jr and 150 camp. Many wondered if director Shamus Gross, a native and frequent visitor of the NYC and a now resident of Georgia could pull off a multitalented camp in various age groups in the Big apple. As a scout and spectator, I will be the first to say, that Gross delivered the goods on all age levels, by assorting talent from not only NY, but other states such as NC, VA, OH, FL, GA, PA, NJ, KY, DE, and DC. Not only was the camp a success, but on Sunday afternoon in the main gym at Fordham University we were able to catch a New York City High School Championship game against Christ The King and St. Raymond's. The camp also had scouting services in attendance such as Hoopscoop (Patrick Stanwood), Buckeye Prep Report (Rob Taylor), Generation Next Basketball (Spencer Pulliam), Elite 75 Prep (Ced Canty and Jacoby Davis), and NYC Hoops. Also appearances were made by Joe Keller himself, creator of the Phenom camp circuit, trainers from Velocity training, and a powerhouse workout staff of Dorian Lee & Jason Hernandez. Everything that was promised was delivered.
DAY1 Recap:
Even with the morning missing some kids to the New York IS8 leagues the gym was packed for Day 1. Camp started out with drills and instructions from Dorian Lee & Jason Hernandez the workout staff, and quick speech by Shamus Gross the Camp director. After that games were on there way quickly. First set of games were led by the 2013-2014 and 2012-2011 class and was followed closely by 2010-09 . Games were very competitive and the day was mixed up and a combination of lectures, drills and games. NCAA lecture and a student athletics seminar was given to the players which added a special educational incentive. Each team was given two camp games for day 1 which gave scouts and fans a look at all the talent assembled in the gym.
DAY2 Recap:
Do to the camp format of the games, teams started the day by playing there third game of the camp, and the championship games depending on there camp team records. Also between games a motivational speech was given by Hoopscoop's analyst Patrick Stanwood. Also during the afternoon on the Fordham University campus was the City Catholic Championship between Erving Walker/Malik Boothe and Christ the King vs Daryl Bryant and St. Raymond's. The day even included a 3pt, Free Throw and Dunk Contest. Championship games proceeded in each age group, and to end the day off with a bang. Director Shamus Gross sent everyone off with watching a very live and exciting Kingdome game.
