Elite 75 Prep Scout Report of 2008 True Hoops Showcase
September 6th 2008 Norcross High School, Norcross, GA
For another year, in the city of abundance of basketball talent, Atlanta's Shamus Goss the Director of True Hoops Showcase pulls off another spectacular camp at Norcross High School. Elite 75 Prep peeked in on Saturday, September 6th, to see what the buzz was about. Goss separated the talent by classes and had 2013/2014, 2012, and 2011 in attendance. First set of games where observed was the 2013/2014/2015 class. Right off hand we recognized these players going to work. In 2015 not many players were ready to stand out, but Albert Hansbrough 5’0 guard of Acworth, GA was. We also have an after event find in the class of 2014. Tadrick Jackson 6’0 guard Ashburn, GA may just have found his way to the top of everyone’s 2014 list. After watching him try to dominate the 2012 division, with dunk after dunk, we where then told that Tadrick was in fact a seventh grader. For most that don’t know, Director Shamus Goss is good for finding top list players that no one knows about. Two years ago, while covering his NYC Adidas Phenom camp in the Bronx, we caught a unknown talent by the name of now top ninth grader 6’5 WF Justin Anderson of Spotsylvania, Virginia doing the exact same thing while in the 7th grade also. Also working hard and eye catching in the 2014 class were Fred Davies, 5’6, Columbus, GA, Gage Ellis, 5’7, Greenville, SC, Humberto Dryden II, 5’2, Marietta, GA, Jawun Evans, 5’5, Simpsonville, SC, and Xavier Kelly, 5’7, Greenville, SC. In the 2013 class we quickly observed big man DeOntaye Curtis, 6'3, from Birmingham, AL. Curtis did a good job of using his size to drive to the basket and also was able to knock down outside shots. Also in the wing forward positions, we were impressed with Seid Webster, 6’4, Madison, AL and Tyrek Coger, 6’6, Raleigh, NC. In the wing shooter spot we caught a couple of NBA standouts sons playing well such as Antonio Davis Jr, 6’3, Roswell, GA, and Hudson Price, 6’1, Duluth, GA, Mark Price’s son, also Demetrius McFadden, 6’2, Columbia, SC had a nice outside touch. During the event we found ourselves watching a lot of the 2013 guard class. With Rodney Purvis, 6’2, Raleigh, NC reclassing to 2013, suddenly moves him quick up the charts. Though Purvis played up in the 2012 class in the event and did very well. He clearly would be the favorite in 2013. But while Purvis played up, the guards handing it out in the class did not let us down. Hometown guards Tony Bagtas, 5’7, Union City, GA, Shamus Goss, 5’5, Lawrenceville, GA, Caleb Hayman, 5’10, Braselton, GA, Richard Carrington, 5’9, Dunwoody, GA and Gregory Murphy, 5’9, Acworth, GA, had strong games throughout the day. Out of state guards in 2013 getting it done was former west coast guard Shelton Mitchell, 5’8, Vancouver, WA now residing in Charlotte, NC, and Terrence Leflore, 5’6, Montgomery, AL. In the freshman class attending the event is where we found guards that need no introduction like, Jordan Price, 6’4, Lithonia, GA, and Nate Bucher, 6’0, Lawrenceville, GA, also Madison Jones, 5’10, Raleigh, NC, Waymond Wright, 5’9, Raleigh, NC, Brandon McNeal, 5’11, Birmingham, AL, Cory Harris, 5’8, Kennesaw, GA, Dereck Herbert, 5’10, Douglasville, GA, Devante Orebeau, 5’7, Douglasville, GA, Keilan Blanks, 5’11, Springhill, TN, Kennen Williams, 5’10, Atlanta, GA, and Tony Leflore, 5’6, Montgomery, AL. We also caught some wing forwards in this class getting it done led by one of Alabama’s top young prospect in Reggie Ragland, 6’4, Madison, AL. Other wings forwards showing their skills in the camp were, Benjamin Howze, 6’2, Jasksonville, FL, Cedric Mitchell, 6’4, Decatur, AL, Ced Webster, 6’2, Lawrenceville, GA, Chris Bolden, 6’1, Lawrenceville, GA, Damien Wilson, 6’4, Marietta, GA, Darion Clark, 6’4, Conyers, GA, Jack Shanks, 6’3, Smyrna, GA, Jason Croom, 6’4, Norcross, GA, Jordan Gathier, 6’0, Conyers, GA, Mials Wooberry, 6’1, Lithonia, GA, Nate Simms, 6’3, Douglasville, GA, Qiydar Davis, 6’4, Snellville, GA, Quadetrius Tyler, 6’4, Riverdale, GA, and Tyler Williams, 6’1, Atlanta, GA. There were also a couple of inside presences that also caught our eye such as, Devonta Pollard, 6’6, Porterville, MS, Quentin Edwards, 6’5, Waycross, GA, Michael Hutchins, 6’5, Livingston, AL, and Sean Morgan, 6’5, Kennesaw, GA. The 2011 Sophomore Class was very interesting. In the wing forward area we were very impressed with Okoye Riley, 6’3, Macon, GA, Jonathan Tinch, 6’2, Lithonia, GA, Kevin Ware, 6’5, Conyers, GA, Nigel Snipes, 6’4, Lithonia, GA, Devin Cherry, 6’3, Meridian, MS, and Bernard Thompson, 6’2, Conyers, GA. With the power forward and center positions not so thick Jayvaughn Pressley, 6’7, Charlotte, NC, Breon Dixon, 6’7, Ashburn, GA, David Mcnair, 6’4, Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Darrius Persons, 6’7, Lithonia, GA, did a good job of holding down the paint area during games. With Elite 75 Prep having to hit the road for the second set of games on Sunday, scouts have told us the competition level rose during the set of Championship Games that followed.
